Moving to Kansas City is a sensible option for professional singles starting their careers, as there are many regional offices based there. The many branches of federal and state government agencies also employ many people in Kansas City, offering many advancement opportunities.
Many singles who have become accustomed to a fast paced, larger coastal cities, may find the midwestern heartland a bit slow for them. However, the slower pace of life in the Kansas City area will gradually win them over. Kansas City has many elements of a larger city, but all the perks of a smaller city.
Reasonable cost of housing and transportation services compared to larger cities is a big draw for Kansas City. Many singles live in historic areas near downtown, which offer large stately older homes within walking distance to cultural activities, unique local shopping, and transportation. Jazz is the staple of the booming music scene and clubs in the area, KC also has the most barbecue restaurants per capita of any city in the country.
Although the downtown Kansas City area has limited shopping options, the entire area covers several counties within both states of Kansas and Missouri. Just south of downtown is the restored Kansas City Union Station, alongside the Crown Center Shops. Historic Westport, where Kansas City began, is another mile farther south. Adjacent to Westport is the Country Club Plaza, which opened in 1926 as the first shopping mall in America. The Spanish architecture of the Country Club Plaza, along with exclusive art shops and name-brand stores plus several dining options, make this the most popular place in Kansas City.
Many apartments surround the Plaza, also a favorite with singles. While the larger apartments are fairly pricey, the area offers smaller apartments roomy enough for a single. Use a self-storage unit for any belongings that won't fit into your new space, since the building may not offer a storage area.
For singles professionals who are sports fans, both the Royals baseball stadium and the Arrowhead football stadium, for the Kansas City Chiefs, are together on the east side of Kansas City, Missouri, conveniently adjacent to interstate highway 70.
Kansas City is a growing city that attracts many singles, due to it's younger residents and active city life. While it may not be as large as Chicago, KC offers the unique experience and bridge between a large and small city.
